About This Blog...

Arnold Toynbee, in his monumental work, "The Study of History," devotes one entire chapter to the subject of saviors.  He breaks them down into four categories:  the savior with a scepter - (the political savior); the savior with the book - (philosoper, teacher, theologian); the savior with the sword - (military type); and the man-god or god-man savior - (those of Greek and Norse mythology).  Professor Toynbee points out then that each of these savior types ultimately capitulates to the great eneny, DEATH.

"Politicians, kings, military leaders, philosophers, all die.  And each of the demi-gods of history have likewise succumbed to the same enemy."  Then he concludes this significant chapter with these words:

"When the last civilization shall have come to the river of death, there on the other side filling the whole horizon with Himself will be the Savior."  In the mind of this great historian there is only one Savior who is qualified to save - because He conquered death.  It is the Savior, that Mary Magdalene, tells the disciples that she had seen, the risen Christ!

This Easter, may we rededicate ourselves to worship, honor and serve, the only true Savior, Who rose from the dead, Jesus Christ the Lord!
