Political Bliss vs. Political Blues
November 24, 2008

The presidential election is finally over for another four years.  Depending on how your candidate did you might be experiencing political bliss or the blues.  As a Bible-believing Christian this is a good time to remember several Scriptural admonitions.

1).  Pray for our elected governmental leaders.  The challenges they face are enormous and we are commanded to submit to their God-given authority and to pray for them, (Romans 13:1-7; I Timothy 2:1-2 ).

2).  Use the freedoms we enjoy for the furtherance of the Gospel.  As we live in the light of our Savior's return, we need to remember that we have received a royal commission, to reach our generation with the Good News of Jesus Christ.  The disciples after the resurrection desired to know if the Lord would restore again the kingdom to Israel?  Jesus responded by saying:  "It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in His own power.  But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you:  and ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth, (Acts 1:6-8).

3).  Remember God is in control!  As much as mere mortals think that they are in charge, God has not abdicated His throne.  He laughs at man's feeble attempts to circumvent His directives and plans, (Psalm 2).  May we remember that though we are blessed to live in these United States of America, our blessings do not come from our nation or any nation; they come from God.  "Blessed are all they that put their trust in Him," (Psalm 2:12).
